Smile! You're on Camera

When you drive on a public street in California, you should assume that someone or something is always videotaping and photographing you.

Dashcam:

If you own a Tesla, you may already be familiar with the built-in dashcam system. This feature allows you to record video from the front, rear, and side cameras of your Tesla. It also catches sounds.

CHP/LAPD/Sheriff:

You need to be aware that all law enforcement have dashcam and body-worn cameras, and that the interior of their vehicles have video recorders. They catch pictures and voices.

You can buy an inexpensive dashcam for both the front and rear of any car. I personally have a dashcam for my protection.

I have had many cases prosecuted or dismissed based on dashcam evidence.

Speed Camera:

On January 1, 2024 a new law went into effect for some cities to install speed cameras in “dangerous” intersections. Los Angeles, San Jose, Oakland, Glendale, Long Beach, and San Francisco have the authority to launch speed camera pilot programs.

The cameras will automatically ticket drivers exceeding the posted speed limit by 11 miles per hour.

Smartphones, dashcams, body-worn cameras, speeding cameras, and traffic cameras are everywhere. Be careful out there.

Using recordings and photographs, I have caught law enforcement officers, witnesses, and even clients not telling the truth or shading a story. It is important evidence I can use to get cases dismissed or reduced.
